How to write house rules guests actually follow
- Explain the why. “Please use the bear-proof bin, we get visitors at night” gets better compliance than “Use the bin”.
- Keep it to 10 or fewer. Long lists get skimmed. Put appliance instructions in a separate how-to section.
- Match your listing. Rules in your guidebook should match the rules on your booking platform listing, so you're covered if there's a dispute.
- Share them early. Send them before arrival, not just in a binder inside the house.
